Fertility Health Checks

Dr. Shipra Bahuguna Gaur is passionate about helping you get pregnant with the least intervention possible. So, if you’ve been trying for a baby for a while, you may want to consider some early intervention options. These options are minimally invasive and far less expensive than more comprehensive fertility treatments such as IVF.

Fertility Health Checks

Being proactive about your reproductive health by undergoing a Fertility Health Check gives you insights about your body and your fertility, so any issues can be identified and managed before you start trying to conceive.

Who is eligible for a Fertility Health Check?

Fertility Health Checks are for people with concerns about their fertility who want to assess their reproductive health before they start trying to conceive.

Some concerns you may have could be:

  • Irregular or painful periods
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Family history of infertility
  • Autoimmune or thyroid conditions
  • Undescended testes or testicular torsion
  • Suspected endometriosis or PCOS

A Fertility Health Check at Nandini IVF & Research Centre involves a comprehensive assessment of your fertility through some simple tests. Your results will be interpreted by Dr. Shipra Bahuguna Gaur (who may use telehealth), who will guide you on what your results may mean for your future fertility. This information can help you make informed decisions about your options for conceiving.

Knowledge is power. The reality is that 1 in 6 couples experience fertility challenges. Knowing where your fertility stands can be the difference between early success and years of trying.

Antimüllerian Hormone (AMH)

AMH is a hormone produced by the follicles in your ovaries. Your AMH level is an indicator of your ovarian reserve (quantity of eggs) because it reflects the size of the pool of remaining follicles

FSH is a hormone produced in your brain. Like its name suggests, it is responsible for stimulating the growth of follicles in your ovaries. Measuring your FSH levels early in your menstrual cycle can indicate ovarian reserve and how hard your ovaries are working to produce follicles.

LH is a hormone produced in your brain. It works in tandem with FSH to regulate your menstrual cycle. It plays a key role in the second half of your menstrual cycle by supporting the maturation of follicles and the implantation of an egg in the uterus. A big surge of LH is what prompts ovulation.

Estrogen (measured as Estradiol) is a hormone produced by your ovaries that controls the development and maintenance of female sex characteristics. E2 is released by your ovaries during the follicular phase of your menstrual cycle (when the follicles on your ovaries are growing). It plays a key role in the thickening of the lining of your uterus (endometrium), the maturation of follicles and ovulation.

TSH is a hormone produced in the brain. Like its name suggests, it is responsible for stimulating your thyroid to produce thyroid hormones. TSH plays a role in the implantation of a fertilised egg and the regulation of ovarian function. Testing your TSH levels before pregnancy ensures that any thyroid disorders can be identified and treated earlier, rather than later.

T4 is a thyroid hormone that is produced by your thyroid gland. It is the primary type of thyroid hormone in your blood. T4 is essential for pregnancy and the development of your growing baby. Measuring our T4 levels alongside your TSH levels gives us a picture of how your thyroid gland is functioning.

Rubella is a viral infection. If contracted during pregnancy, it can lead to numerous complications and lifelong health issues for your child. Screening for Rubella immunity before you start trying to conceive ensures you can receive a Rubella vaccine before you become pregnant.

Varicella is a viral infection also known as chickenpox. If contracted during early pregnancy, there is a risk of lifelong health issues for your developing child. Screening for Varicella immunity before you start trying to conceive ensures you can receive a Varicella vaccine before you become pregnant.

A Pelvic Ultrasound is an internal scan done by a specialised gynaecological ultrasound centre. This scan assesses the shape of your uterus, the structure and mobility of your reproductive organs and may detect abnormalities. A Pelvic Ultrasound allows us to determine your ovarian reserve by counting the number of follicles on your ovaries. This is called an Antral Follicle Count.

There are many reasons to freeze your eggs.

Everyone’s reasons for freezing their eggs are different. Common reasons for egg freezing include:

  • I want to have a baby one day, but I’m not ready to be a parent yet.
  • I’ve recently broken up with a long-term partner with whom I was planning to start a family.
  • I’ve got health concerns that might be a threat to my fertility, like severe endometriosis or a cancer diagnosis.
  • I haven’t found the right person to settle down with yet.
  • I’m unsure if I want to have kids, but I want to keep my options open.

Whatever your reason for freezing your eggs, we’re here to help you explore if it’s right for you.

Please note that if an ultrasound is required, it will incur an additional cost. Ultrasounds will only be ordered if indicated by your clinical circumstances.
